Loading is faster than ever thanks to an ultra-high-speed SSD. Amazing PlayStation games are ready for you, which you can immerse yourself in even more thanks to support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and 3D audio.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition

With the power of a custom CPU, GPU and SSD with integrated I/O, the PlayStation 5 consoles push the boundaries of what’s possible. Enjoy incredible graphics and experience all PS5 features. Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and 3D audio technology.

With ray tracing you’re completely immersed in worlds that are more realistic than ever. Rays of light are simulated individually, creating lifelike shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games. Enjoy smooth gameplay with a high frame rate of up to 120 fps for compatible games, with support for 120 Hz on 4K displays.

PS5 Digital Edition is a PS5 console for digital games only. The device therefore has no disc drive. Of course, you can use the PlayStation Store to buy, download and play games, for example with PlayStation gift cards.

In addition to a fast SSD, the new PlayStation 5 also has a UHD Blu-ray player and supports 4K. Both models have a storage capacity of 825 GB. Finally, this PS5 console has a new user environment, also known as a user interface. In addition to the refreshed look, one of the improved functions is that you can open the user interface without the game being paused.

PlayStation 5 Slim

Two white PlayStation 5 consoles, one standard and one digital, stand between two white controllers on a gray background.

In addition to the regular PS5 and the Pro version, there is also another variant: the PS5 Slim. This model is smaller and lighter than the PS5 that was available at launch. The PS5 Slim is 30% smaller and 18% and 24% lighter. The Slim version is just as powerful but does have slightly more memory: 1 TB instead of 825 GB. There is also an option with the new version to connect a separate disc drive to the Digital Edition, so you can still play your physical PS5 and PS4 games on your new PS5. The PS5 Slim comes with a horizontal stand. Would you prefer to have the PS5 upright? A vertical stand is available separately.

PlayStation 5 Pro: experience Play Unleashed

A white PlayStation 5 console and controller are on a blue background with light streaks.

Features of the PlayStation 5 Pro are:

  • PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR): enjoy ultra-sharp image quality on your television with AI-enhanced resolution for UHD image quality.
  • Improved console performance: the PlayStation 5 Pro achieves higher frame rates for smooth gameplay with support for 60 and 120 Hz displays.
  • Advanced ray tracing: visuals are more realistic than ever with ray-traced reflections and improved overall lighting in games as you make your way through fantastic game worlds.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is a fully digital console without a disc drive. You will therefore need to purchase this separately if you want to play physical PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 games. As standard, the PlayStation 5 Pro is equipped with a 2 TB SSD*, on which you can download all your favourite games from the PlayStation Store.

*Part of the SSD is reserved for system software and other functions, so the actual available SSD capacity may vary.

Sony BRAVIA XR TVs: perfect for PlayStation 5

The image shows a PlayStation 5 console, controller, and a BRAVIA XR television. The TV displays the game "Spider-Man." Text reads, "Perfect for PlayStation 5 BRAVIA XR."

Get the most out of your PlayStation 5 with the new Sony BRAVIA XR televisions. These TVs are the world’s first devices to use cognitive intelligence. Especially for the PS5, these televisions are equipped with exclusive features: Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. Thanks to Auto HDR Tone Mapping, HDR settings are optimised the first time you connect the PS5. Using Auto Genre Picture Mode, the TVs can automatically select the right picture mode, so you no longer need to switch picture settings yourself. In addition, all these Sony TVs feature a 100 Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 inputs and HDR support. The low input lag also ensures responsive gameplay, and you can start gaming straight away when you connect the PS5.

Nog beter en mooier geluid

The image shows the game Horizon Forbidden West next to two black and white Playstation 5 headsets on a white background.

The PS5 also significantly improves sound quality compared to previous Sony consoles. The console features the Tempest Engine. This technology ensures that, in 3D spaces, you can hear exactly where a sound is coming from and that sounds can be played separately from one another. For example, during a rain shower in a game, you can hear every raindrop falling.

The PlayStation 5 controller: the DualSense

Five game controllers in red, black, pink, blue, and purple float against a cosmic background with swirling purple and blue lights.

The DualSense controller is available in a lot of different colours and has features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. This means that, during a racing game, you clearly feel the difference in the surface and experience the tension of your actions in the L2 and R2 buttons. The light bar has also been moved to the front of this PS5 controller and the Share button has been replaced by a Create button. The DualSense also has a built-in microphone. This allows players to communicate easily with their friends and team-mates without needing a headset.

The DualSense Edge wireless

Two white DualSense Edge wireless controllers float above promotional text on a blue background.

The PlayStation DualSense Edge wireless controller features functions designed to provide you with a personal and unique gaming experience. The controller comes in a shell-like case with all kinds of accessories. This gives you the option to customise your joysticks in 3 different ways and use the back buttons to enhance your gaming experience. By using the FN buttons at the bottom of the controller together with the 4 buttons on the right, you can easily switch between profiles that you can set per game. If you use the FN button in combination with the arrow buttons on the left side, you can adjust the volume or the sound in your party or game.

On the back of the controller there is a switch with 3 different settings that determines how far you have to press the R2 or L2 button before it responds. This can be useful for games such as Call of Duty or Ratchet & Clank. PlayStation has kept the shape of the controller largely the same. However, the grips of the PS5 controller have become slightly slimmer and are rounded off at the bottom.

The case also includes a braided cable and a block with a locking option. You feed your USB-C cable through this block and connect it to the controller. By sliding the disc downwards, you secure your cable so you no longer have to deal with cables falling out of your controller. There is also a flap in the case that you can remove so you can charge your controller while it’s safely stored in the case.

The PlayStation VR2

A white and black VR headset with blue light trails is on a gray background.

The PlayStation VR2 headset launched in February 2023. One of the most important differences between the VR2 headset and the previous VR headset is the image quality. The old VR headset had an OLED screen with 960 x 1080 pixels per eye, while the new headset has 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye. This resolution provides 4K HDR images. The field of view of the new VR2 headset has also been increased from 100 degrees to 110 degrees.

In addition to image quality, PlayStation has added the following: intelligent eye tracking. This registers where you’re looking and focuses entirely on that area. Combined with 3D audio immersion, you experience a unique gaming experience. This 3D audio immersion ensures that you’re completely inside the game, with the sound perfectly matching this. You know exactly where your opponents are, feel the presence of a character whispering in your left ear and this is dynamically adjusted depending on how you move your head.

Which PS5 games are available?

Is the PS5 backwards compatible?

A grid of video game cover art is displayed on a reflective surface against a white background.

The PS2 and PS3 (first generation) were the last Sony consoles that were backwards compatible. This meant you could play most PS1 and/or PS2 games on these consoles. Although its successors did not inherit this feature, the PlayStation 5 is backward compatible, allowing you to continue playing most PS4 games on your PS5. Only PS4 VR games do not work on the PS5.
