The waterproofness of a smartwatch is often indicated by an IP certification, just like with waterproof smartphones, for example. Other watches have an ATM certification to indicate water resistance. If a watch has at least ATM certification 5 or if the second number of the IP certification is an 8, then we call it waterproof. To be able to go underwater for a longer period or to dive deeply, your watch needs an even higher certification. The same goes for when you go swimming in the sea, because salt water is more likely to damage your smartwatch than fresh water. Many waterproof smartwatches are so robust and powerful that they are also among the best smartwatches.
