Rockstar Games has set the release date for GTA 6 on 19 November 2026. The game was originally scheduled for 26 May 2026, but that date had already been postponed. The developers are taking extra time to fix bugs, optimise the game, and enhance it for current consoles, which has pushed back the release date.

GTA 6 has 2 main protagonists: Lucia and Jason. In Vice City, they form a close-knit duo carrying out heists while trying to escape the chaos around them. Lucia is the first female protagonist in years. She comes from a challenging background, is on probation, and approaches situations with intelligence and focus. Jason is her partner-in-crime: loyal, practical, and quick to act. The duo feels like a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, with Lucia often taking the role of planner and Jason as the executor.

Jason wants an easy life, but trouble seems to follow him everywhere. He grew up among con artists and criminals. After a period in the military, trying to leave his troubled teenage years behind, he ended up in the Keys, doing what he does best: working for local drug smugglers. Perhaps it’s time for something new. His bond with Lucia gives him a way out and a purpose, though the criminal world never truly lets him go.

Lucia has learned to fight for herself, both literally and strategically. After a difficult childhood and a period in prison, she is determined to carve out her own success. Smart choices and a clear plan are central to her quest for a better life. Perhaps she can achieve that alongside Jason?

Brian Heder

Besides Jason and Lucia, there are several other important GTA VI characters: Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, and Raul Bautista.

  • Brian Heder is an old smuggler in the Keys who gives Jason a place to stay. Together with his wife Lori, he runs a boatyard, arranges routes and contacts, and lets others do the dirty work.
  • Cal Hampton is a friend of Jason and a contact of Brian. He prefers to stay at home with his scanner, listening to the Coast Guard, scouring online sources, and providing intel for jobs before the police get involved.
  • Boobie Ike is a Vice City entrepreneur with interests in real estate, a strip club, and a studio. He remains friendly in personal interactions but is ruthless in business, investing heavily in Only Raw Records with Dre’Quan, knowing that a single hit could elevate his status.

Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy)
  • Dre’Quan Priest is a hustler turned record producer. He signed Real Dimez to Only Raw Records and is focused on making a breakthrough in Vice City.
  • Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy) are a rap duo with a strong online presence. After a local breakthrough, they aim to release their next viral track under Only Raw Records to continue their story.
  • Raul Bautista is an experienced bank robber who assembles teams and selects high-stakes jobs. He could become either a mentor or a contractor for the duo.

GTA 6 Map: where does the story take place?

GTA 6 is set in the state of Leonida, Rockstar Games’ version of Florida. The heart of the map is Vice City, surrounded by swamps, islands, coastal towns, and inland areas. The world is large, diverse, and clearly designed for road trips, boat rides, and high-speed escapes through both urban and natural environments. You’ll find these locations on the GTA 6 map:

  • Vice City: the bustling city full of neon lights, beaches, skyscrapers, and districts ranging from luxury penthouses to rough neighbourhoods. Here, it’s all about money, status, and fame.
  • Leonida Keys: an island region with bridges, marinas, and smuggling routes. Perfect for speedboats and nighttime runs.
  • Grassriver: expansive swamps and villages. Expect airboats, alligators, and backroads with less control.
  • Port Gellhorn: an industrial port city with docks, containers, and shipyards. Ideal for dockside deals and undercover transport.
  • Ambrosia: a coastal town with resorts and shopping streets, but plenty of hidden spots for off-the-record business.
  • Mount Kalaga: the mountainous inland area. Curvy mountain roads, scenic viewpoints, and secluded hideouts for when you need to lay low.
