An air fryer makes life in the kitchen much easier. This versatile appliance does more than just chips – it can also cook meat, fish, vegetables and even baked goods. Potato dishes and snacks in the air fryer

Potato products are very suitable for preparing in an air fryer. From crispy chips to seasoned potato snacks, an air fryer ensures a tasty result with less fat than a deep fryer. This makes the air fryer a healthy alternative to traditional frying. Discover which potato dishes you can easily prepare in the air fryer.

Chips in the air fryer

Air fryer chips come out crispy on the outside and soft inside. Drizzle fresh or frozen chips with sunflower oil for best results. Cook at 180°C for about 15 minutes, shaking halfway. Sweet potato crisps are also a great option.

Potatoes in the air fryer

Potato wedges, slices and snacks (like croquettes or rösti) cook perfectly in the air fryer. Preheat to 180°C and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally.

Snacks in the air fryer

With your portion of chips, you’ll naturally want a tasty snack, such as a frikandel or a kroket. You can, of course, also prepare a crispy bite to enjoy while watching a sports match or celebrating a birthday. Other classic Dutch snacks can naturally go in the air fryer as well, such as bitterballen, fish fingers and cheese soufflés. Are you a fan of other international or vegetarian snacks? You can just as easily prepare (vegetarian) spring rolls, vegetable balls and falafel in this device.

Complete meal in the air fryer

In a Philips air fryer there are steaks in the left 3L drawer and potatoes with green beans in the right 6L drawer.

Large, XL or XXL air fryers often include multiple baskets, making it easy to cook meat, fish and veg all at once – no pans needed.

Meat and chicken in the air fryer

Cook juicy, crispy chicken breasts, meatballs or chops in the air fryer. Marinate for extra flavour and cook at 180°C – 15 mins for breasts, 20 mins for wings or meatballs, 25-30 mins for larger cuts like drumsticks.

In a black Ninja air fryer there are salmon fillets on a rack above Brussels sprouts, and in the other drawer there are pieces of crispy chicken.

Fish in the air fryer

Salmon and cod cook well in an air fryer – 7 minutes at 200°C gives salmon a lovely crust, while breaded fillets take 10 minutes at 180°C. Flip halfway and clean the air fryer after cooking so that your next meal doesn't taste like fish.

Baking in the air fryer

Did you know that you can also make the tastiest baked goods with an air fryer? With the help of the right air fryer accessories, you can bake delicious doughnuts, (bake-off) rolls and whole cakes. A big advantage of making baked goods in the air fryer is that it is usually faster than in the oven.

Oliebollen in the air fryer

Feel like baking oliebollen yourself? Make these Dutch holiday treats with less oil. Shape thick batter into balls, then cook for 10 minutes at 180°C for light, golden oliebollen.

Rolls in the air fryer

Bake-off rolls become deliciously crispy in the air fryer. Place the rolls in the air fryer at 180 degrees for 4 to 5 minutes for a crispy result. Also surprisingly tasty: sandwiches from the air fryer. Top 2 slices of bread, press them together and bake for 4 to 5 minutes at 180 degrees for a crispy sandwich without the need for a sandwich maker. You can also bake a full loaf of bread with an air fryer, for when you want to make a fresh bun quickly. Mix the right amounts of yeast, water, salt and flour into a ball and bake it for about 25 minutes at 200 degrees

Cakes and quiches in the air fryer

Use heatproof moulds that fit your appliance. A small quiche takes 20 minutes at 160°C. Cakes typically need about 30 minutes – check for doneness with a skewer.

Cakes and muffins in the air fryer

Cakes and muffins become surprisingly fluffy in the air fryer. Fill heat-resistant moulds with batter and place them in the air fryer. Bake small cakes and muffins for about 12 minutes at 160 degrees. The big advantage of this is that you can also prepare these kinds of festive baked goods in a small air fryer.

What can't go in the air fryer?

A drop of oil sits on the metal interior of a Tefal ActiFry air fryer. The background is dark and light reflects on the oil.
  • Liquid batter: It runs and doesn’t cook properly. Make sure batters are thick.
  • Fatty meat: Fat can splatter onto the heating coil, causing smoke.

  • Frying oil: Never pour oil into the pan – use only a light coating on food.
  • Water: You can’t boil water. A splash is fine for cleaning, but don’t use it for cooking.
  • Popcorn: Corn pops at 200°C – the maximum for most air fryers – so results are inconsistent.

Air fryers can do more than fry. With the right accessories, you can grill, roast and bake. For baking, look for a model with a large capacity and use a baking tin. For roasting, use a rack or basket. For grilling, a grill plate is ideal.
