VERBATIM M-Disc 4x Blu-ray disc

The advent of Blu-ray technology has paved the way for the introduction of high-capacity storage discs to meet the demand created by the rapid growth of High Definition television. The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue laser used in this technology. The blue color of the laser is due to the shorter wavelength used. The blue laser has a wavelength of 405 nm, whereas the red laser used in DVDs has a wavelength of 650 nm. The advantage of a blue laser with a shorter wavelength is that it is possible to create smaller data pits, allowing much more data to be stored on the disc.
