When the storage capacity of a Synology 1U RackStation is nearing its limit, the Synology Expansion Unit RX418 offers a simple expansion solution by adding four 3.5" or 2.5" SATA drives to the system. The Synology RX418 can also be used as a dedicated local backup destination for a Synology 1U RackStation to provide complete data protection.

Reliable plug-and-play design
Connect the Synology RX418 to the corresponding Synology RackStation, and the system is ready to use. The drives in the connected Synology RX418 work as if they were in the connected Synology NAS and can be managed directly by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) without the need for installing additional software.

Green and easy to manage
The award-winning Synology DSM provides an intuitive user interface for easy system management. The sleep mode can be configured in DSM so that the drives automatically enter this mode when the system has been inactive for a certain period. This not only saves energy but also extends the lifespan of the hard drives used.
