Bright F2.8 zoom lens for everyday use
SIGMA's first zoom lens for APS-c system cameras has a large full-frame (35mm) equivalent zoom range of 27-75 mm. This makes it ideal for a wide range of photo and video applications, including landscapes, portraits, street photography, architecture, and events.
Thanks to the maximum magnification factor of 1:2.8, the lens is also extremely suitable for close-up photography in macro style, with a minimum focusing distance of only 12.1 cm. The bright aperture makes it easier to shoot handheld in low light and offers a shallow depth of field for impressive results.
The autofocus is exceptionally fast and quiet thanks to the stepping motor. This is particularly useful for video recordings when capturing fast-moving subjects such as children and animals. The exceptionally small and light design of the lens, weighing less than 300 grams, makes it perfect as a first interchangeable lens, as well as an intermediate lens for full-frame bodies*2 and various shooting situations.
Exceptionally compact and light body, ideal for system cameras
The SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary is remarkably compact, matching the size of APS-c system cameras. Currently, this F2.8 lens is the smallest and lightest in its class, with a length of 74.5mm, a diameter of φ65.4 mm, and a weight of 290 grams.
SIGMA has constructed the body from carefully selected materials to keep the weight of the lens as low as possible. For the slim and robust lens barrel, a polycarbonate called Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) was used. This material has thermal conductivity comparable to aluminum. This property guarantees stable performance and good operability, even in an environment with extreme temperature fluctuations.
By consciously using metal for some internal parts, these could be produced much thinner and with higher rigidity, so that the lens can withstand regular and heavy use.
