What does the AC adapter do for a laptop?

A laptop adapter converts alternating current (AC) from the socket (220-230 volts) into direct current (DC, varying from about 5 to 24 volts in a laptop). Insert the plug of the corresponding power cable into the socket and plug the connector into the laptop on the other side of the cable. The direct current gives the laptop's battery the correct power for (full) charging.
