System

The Nintendo DS Lite, the smaller, sleeker version of the Nintendo DS, combines dual-screen action with touchscreen interaction. This provides the player with a unique gaming experience. The system also features wireless communication technology. This allows players to play multiplayer games with their friends or send messages and drawings to each other using the built-in PictoChat software. The Nintendo DS Lite revolutionizes portable gaming.


Two screens

Thanks to two ultra-sharp, backlit LCD screens, the Nintendo DS Lite offers a groundbreaking way of gaming. Each of the two 7.6 cm screens is capable of producing fully three-dimensional graphics; the DS has enough power to produce more advanced visuals than the Nintendo 64. Additionally, you can adjust the screen brightness to four different levels to play in any lighting condition.

The possibilities are endless. One screen can be used to display the main action, while the other can serve as a map, inventory screen, or provide a second perspective on the action. The two screens can be used simultaneously to display enormous bosses!


Controls

In addition to a touchscreen, the Nintendo DS Lite also features a digital directional pad and 8 action buttons that enable every conceivable play style.

For the Nintendo DS Lite, both the directional pad and the other buttons have been redesigned. This further improves functionality and ease of control.


Built-in microphone

The Nintendo DS Lite includes a built-in microphone that allows you to talk to other players in certain games via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Additionally, thanks to this microphone, you can interact with the game world around you in completely new ways!

Teach your puppy all sorts of tricks using your own voice in 'Nintendogs' or solve a puzzle in 'Hotel Dusk: Room 215' by literally blowing dust off an old object! In some games, such as 'Metroid Prime: Hunters' and 'Puzzle League DS', you can even talk to your friends while playing via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, even if they are somewhere else entirely.


Stereo sound

Two stereo speakers adorn the Nintendo DS Lite, providing optimal sound quality (even surround sound in some games). The system also includes a headphone jack for those moments when you want to retreat on your own. The powerful audio capabilities of the Nintendo DS Lite immerse gamers in a world of atmospheric sound effects and vibrant music.


Touchscreen technology

The bottom screen of the DS Lite utilizes touchscreen technology, creating a gaming experience that surpasses that of any other handheld.

Each system includes a stylus. Use it to write numbers on the touchscreen in ‘Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?’ or to draw your discoveries on the map in ‘The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass’. Create drawings and send them to your friends via PictoChat, control the action on screen with more precision than ever before, or navigate through a menu with the touch of your fingertip. Whether you're controlling Samus Aran in 'Metroid Prime Hunters' or petting a dog in 'Nintendogs', thanks to touchscreen technology, you'll play games in a brand new way!

You can store the stylus on the side of the DS Lite. The touchscreen features a durable coating.


Wireless network

The communication technology of the Nintendo DS Lite allows up to 16 local gamers to connect wirelessly. The maximum distance within which players can connect varies from 10 to 30 meters.

For some games, each player needs to own a copy of the game to participate in multiplayer sessions. This is called Multi-Card Play. However, many titles also include an option called Single-Card Play. With this, only one player needs to own the game, and up to 15 others (depending on the specific software) can join the game. This is done via DS Download Play, and sometimes it's even possible to send a demo version of a game to another DS Lite.

Thanks to its wireless technology, the Nintendo DS Lite can also communicate with the Wii system, as seen in Pokémon Battle Revolution.

Game Boy Advance games playable

The Nintendo DS Lite has two slots: one is for DS game cards, and the other is for Game Boy Advance game cartridges. All existing GBA games are playable on the DS Lite, giving this system hundreds of additional titles. Please note: only the single-player mode can be played on the DS Lite.


More features

Thanks to the powerful rechargeable lithium-ion battery of the Nintendo DS Lite and the included charger, you can play for up to 19 hours on a full charge*. Additional batteries are therefore unnecessary. The Nintendo DS Lite fully recharges in three hours, which is an hour faster than the Nintendo DS.

The handheld also features a clock, calendar, and alarm functions. You can also enter various other details, such as your birthday, the background color, and your nickname.

*How long you can play with a charged Nintendo DS Lite battery depends on the brightness level the handheld is set to.
