The life of Margherita, a successful filmmaker, comes under high pressure when her mother is admitted to the hospital. She is in the middle of shooting her new film and has to deal with a pretentious American actor; he does not understand her directions and constantly demands attention on the set with his tall tales. With an ex-husband, a growing daughter and the struggles in a new relationship, she can't handle much more. Her brother, who can spend the necessary time at the sickbed, rubs Margherita's nose in the facts: their mother will not live much longer. This realization forces Margetha to reflect on the life she lives. She takes her mother home to spend this last phase with her. Saying goodbye to her mother becomes a sad but also valuable period in her life.
