The UV filter absorbs the invisible ultraviolet light from the air, which can cause blurriness and on which many color films react with a blue cast. Actually, the filter should be called a UV-blocking filter, because for technical applications there are also UV filters that specifically let UV radiation through and block everything else. Among photographers, however, the term "UV filter" is always used for UV-absorbing filters. UV filters are ideal for photography at high altitudes, by the sea, and in areas with very clean air. Photos gain brilliance and disturbing blue cast is avoided. Apart from the disappearance of the blue cast, nothing else changes in the photos.
