Mel Brooks' comic epic about cowboys and idiots.A railroad is being built right through the sleepy town of Rock Ridge. The land will increase incredibly in value because of it, but in order to do that, its inhabitants (and rightful owners) must be driven out of the area. How? First, send in your roughest, cunningest and most ruthless gang and, second, appoint a new sheriff who probably won't last 24 hours. But that's not really the plot of Blazing Saddles, rather its pretext. For once Mel Brooks' jilted film (one sometimes calls it his best) is "shot" from the starting blocks, logic is left riddled, in a dust cloud of gags, gags and jokes, screamers and killers. Laughter becomes whine and thigh chatter becomes stomping as good taste (any taste, really) is expertly surrounded and pummeled. Cleavon Little as the fresh-faced lawman, Gene Wilder as the insane Waco Kid, Brooks himself as an idiot politician and Madeline Kahn with the Marlene Dietrich parody that earned her an Oscar® nomination† all combine to make Blazing Saddles a legendary laugh fest that doesn't end until the Old Wild West has been left in one piece.
