Where to place your smoke detectors and combination detector?

A combination detector is a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in one. Smoke rises, and carbon monoxide spreads through the air. Due to this difference, there is no single perfect spot for the combination detector, but it entirely depends on your situation.

In the Netherlands, it is legally required to have a smoke detector on every living floor and in enclosed spaces through which an escape route passes.
In Belgium, it is legally required to have smoke detectors on every living floor. In Flanders, you must install at least one smoke detector per floor; in Wallonia, this is also required, but if the area is larger than 80 m², two smoke detectors must be placed.

In addition to complying with legal obligations, we advise you to optimize the safety in your home by installing combination detectors, smoke detectors, and/or carbon monoxide detectors in strategic locations:

• Areas with combustion appliances: Place carbon monoxide alarms or combination detectors in every room where combustion appliances are located, such as central heating boilers, gas heaters, water heaters, or fireplaces. These devices can emit carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly gas. A CO alarm near these appliances ensures a quick warning in case of dangerous carbon monoxide buildup, allowing you to act in time.
• Escape routes: Place smoke detectors or combination detectors in hallways and near stairs, especially if they lead to bedrooms. This ensures that smoke is detected quickly and you can react in time.
• Bedrooms: It is crucial to install smoke detectors or combination detectors in or near bedrooms so that the alarm can alert everyone during the night. This increases the chance that residents are woken up in time in case of a fire. For this, choose a bedroom-friendly Aroha Sleep Line smoke detector without a standby LED.
• Living rooms: A smoke detector or combination detector in the living room is important, especially if devices that can cause smoke and fire, such as a fireplace, are frequently used.
• Near kitchens: It is not advisable to place smoke detectors or combination detectors directly in the kitchen due to the risk of false alarms from cooking fumes. Place a smoke detector near a kitchen or choose our specially designed Aroha Heat Detector to detect fires in the kitchen in a timely manner.
• Within range of 2.4 GHz WiFi network: Place your Aroha Smart Connect detector within range of the 2.4 GHz WiFi network so that the detector can connect to the app. You do not need to be within range of this same WiFi network to receive notifications.
• Locations to avoid: Avoid smoke detectors or combination detectors in areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms and garages, to prevent false alarms.

Note: The Aroha Smart Connect detector is a WiFi detector without interlinking. 2.4 GHz WiFi is required to connect the smart detector to the app. You do not need a subscription in the Tuya or SmartLife app to receive notifications or use the other described functionalities.
