Where to place your smoke detectors and heat detector?

In the Netherlands, it is legally required to have a smoke detector on every living floor and in enclosed spaces through which an escape route passes.
In Belgium, it is legally required to have smoke detectors on every living floor. In Flanders, you must install at least one smoke detector per floor; in Wallonia, this is also required, but if the area is larger than 80 m², two smoke detectors must be placed.

In addition to meeting legal requirements, we advise you to optimize fire safety in your home by installing smoke detectors in strategic locations:

• Escape routes: Place smoke detectors in hallways and near stairs, especially if they lead to bedrooms. This ensures that smoke is detected quickly and you can react in time.
• Bedrooms: It is crucial to install smoke detectors in or near bedrooms so that the alarm can alert everyone during the night. This increases the chance that residents will be woken up in time in case of fire. For this, choose an sleep-friendly Aroha Sleep Line smoke detector without a standby LED.
• Living rooms: A smoke detector in the living room is important, especially if devices that can cause smoke and fire, such as a fireplace, are often used.
• Kitchens: It is not recommended to place smoke detectors directly in the kitchen due to the risk of false alarms from cooking fumes. Place the heat/smoke detector in heat mode to detect fire in time.
• Bathrooms, garages: Avoid smoke detectors in areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms and garages, to prevent false alarms. Place the heat/smoke detector in heat mode to detect fire in time.
• Within range of 2.4 GHz WiFi network: Place your Aroha Smart Connect & Link smoke detector within range of the 2.4 GHz WiFi network so that the detector can connect to the app. You yourself do not need to be within range of this same WiFi network to receive notifications. The other Aroha Link detectors are not connected to the app and therefore do not need to be within range of a WiFi network.
• Within range of interconnected group: Aroha Link detectors have a transmission range of up to 100 meters without obstacles, such as walls, doors, and ceilings. Ensure that the Aroha Link detectors are within each other's range so that they can provide a synchronous alarm.
• Locations to avoid: Avoid smoke detectors in areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms and garages, to prevent false alarms.

• 1. How many detectors do I see in the app? Only the Aroha Smart Connect (& Link) detectors connected via 2.4 GHz WiFi are visible in your Tuya Smart or SmartLife app. Aroha Link detectors are not displayed in the app. Thanks to the interlinking between the Aroha Smart Connect Smoke Detector and Aroha Link detector(s), you will receive notifications of alarms that sound within the group.
• 2. What happens when an alarm sounds in the interconnected detectors? When one of the detectors detects smoke, all detectors in the group simultaneously warn with a loud alarm. If you have an Aroha Smart Connect & Link detector, you will receive a notification on your phone via the connected app.
• 3. Can I add the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector with WiFi to my existing Aroha Link network? Yes, you can link it to your existing network of up to 30 Aroha Link smoke, heat, carbon monoxide, and combination detectors, as long as they are within a range of 100 meters (without obstructions).
• 4. What happens if I use the mute button in the app? Only the Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detector is muted; the other interconnected detectors remain active. You can silence these using the mute button on the detectors.
• 5. Can I link multiple Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detectors together? Yes, you can link these smoke detectors together and also manage them individually via your app, wherever you are. You will see all Aroha Smart Connect & Link Smoke Detectors in your Tuya Smart or SmartLife app, including their battery status. You can mute them individually, but if an alarm sounds, you will receive multiple notifications in the app. You cannot see where the alarm originally came from; all detectors sound simultaneously.

You do not need a subscription in the Tuya or SmartLife app to receive notifications or use the other described functionalities. If you prefer interlinking between multiple smoke, carbon monoxide, and combination detectors, but without an app, then the Aroha Link detectors are the ideal choice. If you prefer only connection to an app via WiFi to see where an alarm was first detected, you can opt for an Aroha Smart Connect detector without interlinking.
