Do you have a Samsung smartphone and notice that the battery runs out quickly? That’s inconvenient, because then you can’t call, text, play games or take photos for long. Take advantage of our tips on what to do if the battery of your Samsung phone is no longer charging properly or is draining quickly.

What to do if your Samsung battery isn’t (properly) charging

If the battery of your Samsung smartphone isn’t charging properly, you first need to find out what’s causing it. You can do this by following these 3 tips in order, until you know why your Samsung battery isn’t working or only working poorly:

  • Try another charger.
  • Run a battery test.
  • Clean your USB-C port.

1. Try another charger

Your battery might still be fine, but your charger could be broken. You can test this by using a different phone charger for your Samsung phone and by connecting your charger to a device other than your smartphone. This way, you quickly find out whether your smartphone or your charger is the problem. If it’s the latter, it’s wise to buy a new charger.

2. Run a battery test

Sometimes your battery drains quickly simply because it no longer works properly. You can check this with an app that tests the quality of your Samsung battery: Samsung Members. You can download this app for free in the Google Play Store. Click on the ‘Support’ tab and then on ‘Diagnostics’. Here, choose the ‘Start’ option and then click ‘Battery status’. You’ll receive the result of this battery test shortly. Is the result ‘Good’? Then there’s nothing wrong with the battery of your Samsung smartphone and there must be another reason why your battery isn’t charging properly. If the test shows that your battery is no longer good, you can have the battery repaired at MediaMarkt.

3. Remove dirt from the USB-C port

If you often carry your phone in your trouser pocket or bag, dirt can get into the USB-C port. If there is dirt in the connector, your charger cannot make proper contact with the battery. As a result, your battery may not charge properly or not at all. You can remove the dirt by gently blowing into the USB-C port or by using a soft brush or cotton bud to remove it. Be careful, as the USB-C port is sensitive and can be damaged.

How long does the battery of a Samsung smartphone last on average?

The battery life of a Samsung smartphone depends on various factors, such as how often you use your phone, which apps you use, how high you set your screen brightness and how strong your network signal is. In general, you can say that a Samsung smartphone can last about a day without charging. But if you watch a lot of videos, play games or browse the internet, your battery can drain faster. In addition, the older the phone, the faster your battery performance will deteriorate. This doesn’t have to be a big problem. You’ll simply need to put the battery on the charger more often. Tip: with a power bank, you can charge your smartphone anytime and anywhere.

What is the capacity of a Samsung battery?

The capacity of a Samsung battery is expressed in mAh, which stands for milliampere per hour. This indicates how much energy the battery can store and deliver. The higher the number, the more energy the battery has. The capacity of a Samsung battery differs per model, but on average it’s, depending on how you use your phone, around 4,000 mAh per hour. This is comparable to the capacity of iPhones.
