As a Ditto transformed into a human, you rebuild a world together with all your favourite Pokémon. Pokémon Pokopia is a sim game in which creating, collecting and building are central to reshaping your world. This game is an appealing choice for both Pokémon fans and lovers of cosy games. Read on to discover everything about this new Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch 2.

What is Pokémon Pokopia?

Following the success of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Nintendo’s next Pokémon title is already on the way: Pokémon Pokopia. This cosy sim game for the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers a brand-new Pokémon adventure. You start out as Ditto, who wakes up in the remains of a Pokémon Center. As Ditto, you take on human form (as Ditto loves to do) and set off on your journey. You’re not alone, though: Professor Tangrowth, an endearing old Pokémon, is there to support you. He explains that all humans and Pokémon have disappeared and the world has become empty and barren. It’s up to you to rebuild it and attract new Pokémon who can lend a hand with building, gathering and gardening. That’s how Pokopia becomes a place full of life once more.

What is the difference between Pokémon Pokopia and other Pokémon games?

Whereas in a traditional Pokémon game you catch Pokémon to battle other trainers and collect badges by defeating gym leaders, Pokémon Pokopia is all about friendship. You work together with Pokémon to build up their world and attract even more Pokémon, who all roam around freely. You’ll build little houses where Pokémon can feel at home and tend to your crops. Sometimes the Pokémon themselves will make requests to help you progress. For example, Squirtle would love you to create a path to the beach so it can go for a swim.

Just like in Minecraft, the world is made up of 3D blocks, known as voxels, which you can shape, place and remove. Pokémon Pokopia is a cosy game, and you’ll notice this as you create paths, gardens and snug little living spaces. Players of cosy games such as Disney Dreamlight Valley and Animal Crossing will feel right at home.

Which Pokémon will you find in Pokémon Pokopia?

In Pokémon Pokopia you’ll encounter all kinds of familiar Pokémon that come to your world as you build, shape and decorate it. You’ll meet Squirtle and Bulbasaur early in your adventure, which is very handy, as they teach you moves to water your crops and make plants grow. Create the right habitat for specific Pokémon to entice them into your area. For example, you’ll need to place a punchbag so Hitmonchan can train, and Magikarp will happily pop by if you put a chair with a fishing rod by the water.

But there’s more: mysterious variants of well-known Pokémon will play a role in the story. It’s up to you to unravel these mysteries. Peakychu, a white Pikachu with large eyes and a soft glow, and Mosslax, a moss-covered Snorlax, will both make an appearance. Alongside these Pokémon you’ll find many others, such as Eevee, Gardevoir and Zorua. Paldean Wooper and Tatsugiri from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can also become your neighbours. And many more Pokémon will be eager to come and live with you.

Pokémon Pokopia features a multiplayer option: you can explore, build and gather with up to 4 players. This means you can complete quests more quickly and no building project is too big. You can visit each other’s worlds, bring materials when needed and head out together to explore the world. With GameShare, you can even play with friends who don’t own the game themselves, and players with a Nintendo Switch can also join in, even though Pokopia is only being released for the Switch 2. You can play online together with players from all over the world thanks to Nintendo Switch Online.
