Unprecedented image quality
The compact full-frame wide-angle power zoom lens with a constant F4 aperture offers unprecedented G Lens image quality. It includes two AA (Advanced Aspherical) elements, one Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) element, and one ED element to counteract distortion and aberration. The circular aperture and spherical aberration improve bokeh quality, while the minimum focusing distance of 0.24 meters allows for beautiful close-ups.

Designed for refined video footage
In addition to smooth, versatile power zoom, this extremely compact lens minimizes disturbing angle-of-view shifts that occur during focusing or zooming, ensuring stable, high-quality footage is easily obtained. Focusing, zooming, and aperture control are also very quiet, minimizing noise and vibration that can disrupt video recording.

Smooth, responsive power zoom
The new power zoom system, the first with four XD Linear Motors in an α lens, offers smooth operation and fast, manual zoom. Even subtle zoom ring rotations are precisely detected and immediately translated into zoom control. A continuously variable zoom lever makes slow zooming at a constant speed easy, and you can remotely control the zoom with the camera on a gimbal.

Two XD (eXtreme Dynamic) Linear Motors deliver fast, quiet autofocus with low vibration while keeping the lens compact. The reliable AF can track subjects during high frame rate filming. Thanks to the compatible body, focus remains accurate when shooting at 30 frames per second. Subjects are also tracked when zooming.
