The new optical design ensures excellent corner-to-corner resolution and beautiful bokeh. The lens is compact, lightweight, and ideal for a wide range of subjects.

High resolution throughout the zoom range, even at F2.8
Two AA (advanced aspherical) elements and two aspherical elements suppress aberration for excellent G Lens resolution. Three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements minimize color bleed. Our Nano Coating suppresses flare and ghosting for clear contrast. Control over spherical aberration and a 9-blade circular aperture contribute to smooth bokeh.

Compact, Lightweight, and Bright
With its perfect mechanical and optical design, this compact 16–55 mm (24–82.5 mm full-frame equivalent) constant F2.8 zoom lens weighs only 494 grams. This lens can be used for everything from portraits to everyday snapshots and can be combined with compact E-mount bodies for a practical system for a variety of photographic applications.

XD Linear Motor for Fast, Accurate AF and Tracking
This APS-C lens features the same advanced XD (eXtreme Dynamic) linear motor for optimal focusing performance as G Master series lenses. This type of motor takes full advantage of the camera body's speed to accurately track and keep even fast-moving subjects in focus. The motor is also very quiet, allowing videographers to take advantage of the constant F2.8 aperture.

Professional Control and Reliability
A customizable focus hold button, AF/MF switch, and Linear Response MF provide the versatility and precision needed to capture the desired image even in changing conditions. The front lens element is protected by a water- and dirt-repellent fluorine coating, and the lens is dust- and moisture-resistant, allowing it to be used outdoors without worry.
