High Speed Ethernet and Type-C

The maximum throughput of USB-C is theoretically around 5 Gbit/s. That is oversized, but USB 2.0 does not go beyond 480 Mbit/s. The USB-C speed is in any case considerably more than what you can achieve via a common wireless connection. A slightly smooth WiFi adapter in a notebook achieves a theoretical throughput of approximately 110 MB/s (866.7 Mbit/s) under ideal conditions. In practice, you usually stay well below that. A wired gigabit connection will usually easily approach 1000 Mbit/s - in one direction. A gigabit adapter is therefore an interesting investment if you regularly have to transfer many and large files. We have extensively tested the Ethernet Adapter, all with USB-C connections and at least a gigabit network port. We tested the adapter with a program that is widely used for measuring networks. Of course, we used a cable of good quality. Although CAT5 would be fine for these measurements, we opted for a high-quality CAT6 cable. This quality is sufficient for setting up 10-gigabit connections. If you are planning to lay cables in your home yourself, this type of cable is a safe, future-proof choice. We can actually be brief about the test results. This adapter tests 949 Mbit/s in our situation and more than meets all the conditions we have set. Ideally suited for a stable, high-speed network. You can also fully utilize a fast fiber optic connection.
