Apple Intelligence: AI for your Mac, iPad and iPhone

During WWDC 2024, Apple’s new AI technology was unveiled: Apple Intelligence. With this smart technology, you can get even more out of your iPhone, iPad or Mac, thanks in part to Siri. On this page, you can read more about the new features and how Apple Intelligence can make your life easier.

Apple Intelligence is available in Dutch since autumn 2025. You will need the following models or newer than: iPhone 16 model, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, an iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or higher. Some features, such as Live Translation and Playground, will be available in a limited number of languages and will only be offered in Dutch at a later stage.

What is Apple Intelligence?

Apple Intelligence is an AI model developed by Apple and designed specifically for Apple devices. This technology is intended to make your life easier and more enjoyable by helping you with communication, creating images, checking texts and generating summaries. With Apple Intelligence, Siri will work even better than you are already used to. Apple Intelligence was released in autumn 2024 for iPad, iPhone and Mac. Writing Tools

The new Writing Tools make writing much easier. Have you written an email but are not satisfied with the style? With Apple Intelligence, you can adjust the tone of your text, making it sound friendlier or more formal. You can also use AI to check your texts for spelling, grammar and structure with the Proofread feature. Have you suddenly been added to a long email thread that you do not really want to read in full? Then you can simply ask for a summary of the most important points. This saves you a lot of time and effort.

Do you often use emojis in your text messages? Then there’s good news: with Genmoji, you can create your own emojis and use them in your conversations. Want a dinosaur on a skateboard? Then you’ll get a dinosaur on a skateboard. You can also customise your friends’ avatars or create them yourself if they don’t have one yet. For example, you can dress your dad’s avatar as a cowboy or your best friend as an astronaut.

Image Playground and Image Wand

Apple is also introducing new features in the area of design. Create cool images with Image Playground, such as a dog as a chef or a beautiful background with a sunset. You can also adjust the style, for example to animation or illustration. You can use photos of family or friends to create personalised images, for instance for a wedding or a birthday. The Image Wand feature allows you to turn a sketch into a finished image with a single tap on the screen.

AI integration for Siri

Thanks to Apple Intelligence, Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, also gets a huge boost. ChatGPT is integrated into Siri, giving Siri an even larger source of knowledge. You can decide yourself whether Siri uses ChatGPT. The language understanding has also been improved; if you don’t pronounce a word correctly, Siri will still understand what you mean. Siri also remembers previous conversations. It gathers data from various apps and makes certain connections. For example, Siri will know that the lunch appointment in your calendar is with your mum, since you arranged it via WhatsApp. If you’re not able to speak but still want to ask Siri a question, you can simply type your question thanks to Apple Intelligence and receive an answer. This way, you always have access to all the information you need, wherever you are.

Priority Notifications

Thanks to Apple Intelligence, your iPhone and iPad know exactly what is important to you and happily adapt to how you use them. The Priority Notifications feature ensures that the most important alerts appear at the top of your screen, so you see them first. This way, you’re immediately informed of the most relevant messages and requests.

Memory Movie

Thanks to the new AI features, your Apple devices can recognise who and what is in your photos. With Memory Movie, you can create a short film from photos that belong together. For example, ask for a film of Jeroen learning to swim, and the AI software will collect all the photos of Jeroen in the water. By putting these photos one after another in chronological order, you can see the progress Jeroen has made. Of course, the result depends on how many photos you have taken over time of Jeroen swimming.

Make sure your device is updated so that you can use Apple Intelligence. For iPhone, you need at least iOS 18; for all iPad models, you need iPadOS 18; and for your Mac devices, you need macOS Sequoia.
