Ja, ik beveel dit product aan.
I'll be completely honest, there are certain products that I approach with a bit of trepidation. Usually, it is brands where I feel the name has outgrown the actual product. I totally admit that a part of it is unjustified bias but not surprisingly I don't own any Apple products. Beats? Yep, none of those either. Bose. Nope.
So I was curious when offered the chance to test out the Bose SoundLink Color II. Could this little Bluetooth speaker possibly live up to the sky-high Bose reputation and marketing? Is a small(ish) Bluetooth speaker worth such a commanding price?
Well, clearly based on my five-star review I'm impressed. I own and have tested loads of Bluetooth speakers and I've run the gamut from underwhelming to this, the SoundLink II. By and far the SoundLink II is the best sounding small(ish) Bluetooth speaker I've ever used. I'm sure there's something out there that sounds better... maybe the Bang & Olufsen A9? But the SoundLink II is just impressive.
First, there's the user interaction with the speaker. In most Bluetooth speakers you need to perform some sort of button mumbo-jumbo of holding buttons for x-seconds to turn the device on. Then pressing and holding another button (or two) for y-seconds to pair your device. The Bose SoundLink is easy. Press the power button once to turn the device on where it immediately pairs with the last paired (and closest) device. Done. No buttonology, no mumbo-jumbo.
Simple voice commands guide you through your inputs or what the speaker is doing, "pairing" or "paired to Google Pixel", etc.
Head over to the iOS (if you're one of *those) or the Play Store and download Bose Connect to get a simple app that integrates with your smart device, SoundLink II and streaming service and gives you expanded management options. From Bose Connect you'll be able to quickly (and painlessly) switch connected devices, monitor battery life, volume and playback options.
The clarity is what surprised me the most about the audio from this little speaker. It's loud too but produces a distinctly not small BT speaker sounding audio playback that surprised me. Suffice to say that this is easily the best BT speaker I've owned or heard.
Although I cannot find the actual size of the Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, Bose rates the battery in the SoundLink II at 8hrs of playback time. So far, I'm still on my first full charge and have only used about half of the battery life. Another great feature is a voice prompt that calls out battery life quickly each time the speaker is powered on. It immediately takes the guesswork out of how much juice you have left.
A splash of color is nice and Bose definitely went that route with the SoundLink Color II. Mine is in Aquatic Blue and it really stands out. Going for a subtle look? Try the Soft Black or Polar White options. The finish on the outside of the speaker is moderately ruggedized. The buttons and the rest of the speaker for that matter are covered in a silicone shell. This is a speaker that's more at home on the patio or at the beach than a stuffy living room.
I'm pleasantly surprised at not just the overall presentation of the Bose SoundLink Color II but also the audio. Audio is crisp, clear and plenty loud. Easily the best Bluetooth speaker I've used to date and a staple in my backyard or kitchen. Recommended!
